Lathe can add: Flying knife disc

Mar 07, 2025Leave a message

Ordinary lathes are mainly used for turning, such as outer circles, inner holes, end faces, threads, etc. Flying cutter discs are usually used on milling machines or machining centers for milling planes, grooves, etc. However, if a flying cutter disc is installed on a lathe, the function of the lathe may be expanded, giving it a certain milling capability, or performing compound processing.

What can be processed with a lathe plus a fly cutter?

1. Milling planes: milling planes on the end face or outer circle of the workpiece.

2. Milling keyways: milling keyways on shaft parts.

3. Drilling: drilling with a drill on the fly cutter.

4. Tapping: if the fly cutter can adjust the speed and feed, tapping operations may be possible.

5. Complex contour processing: processing complex shapes through the feed motion of the lathe and the rotation of the fly cutter.
