Y-Axis Turn-Mill Compound Machines — Turning + Milling in One Clamping

SZGH's Y-axis turn-mill compound machines combine CNC bar turning, live-tool milling, end-face and side-face drilling, and rigid tapping in a single setup — eliminating the secondary operation of moving parts from a lathe to a milling machine and re-fixturing. The result: shorter cycle time, fewer handling errors, and tighter dimensional consistency on complex rotational parts.

The SZGH-36 Y-Axis (35mm bar) and SZGH-46 Y-Axis (45mm bar) both feature SZGH's self-developed CNC controller with C-axis positioning,
powered turret with 4+4 live tool stations (end-face and side-face), and support for simultaneous Y-axis and C-axis interpolation. CE certified. SGS factory-verified. 30–45 day lead time.

  • SZGH-36 Y Axis Turn-Mill Compound Lathe | 35mm Bar | Turning + Milling + Drilling in One Setup
    A slant bed CNC turning machine upgraded with 4 side-mounted live power heads on the Y axis — enabling drilling, tapping, milling, and slotting on the side face of a workpiece in a single clamping. Eliminates secondary operations, reduces repositioning error, and allows one operator to run multiple machines. The direct step up from a standard SZGH-36J when your parts require side-face features.
  • SZGH-46 Y Axis Turn-Mill Compound Machine | 45mm Bar | 4+4 Power Heads | End-Face + Side-Face in One Setup
    The most capable compound turning machine in the SZGH 46-series — a high-rigidity slant bed lathe with a Y-axis 4+4 power head configuration (4 end-face + 4 side-face live tooling positions), an 8-station servo turret, and 220mm Y-axis travel. Completes turning, drilling, tapping, milling, and multi-face machining on parts up to 45mm bar diameter in a single clamping. The step up from the SZGH-36 Y axis when your parts are larger, more complex, or require simultaneous end-face and side-face operations.

About SZGH Turn-Mill Compound Machines

What Is a Turn-Mill Compound Machine?

A turn-mill compound (also called a mill-turn machine or turning center with live tooling) is a CNC machine that performs both turning and milling operations without removing the workpiece. The spindle acts as a C-axis for angular positioning, while powered (live) tool stations
mounted on the turret drive end mills, drills, and taps — allowing cross-holes, flats, keyways, slots, and off-center features to be machined in the same cycle as the turned diameter.
For manufacturers producing complex shafts, fittings, valve bodies, or multi-feature rotational parts, a turn-mill compound replaces two machines and two setups with one.

SZGH-36 Y-Axis Turn-Mill Compound | 35mm Bar Capacity

Designed for complex small-diameter parts — precision shafts, connector bodies, medical implant components, and multi-feature fittings in the 20–35mm bar range. The SZGH-36Y's 4+4 power head configuration (4 end-face + 4 side-face live tool stations) and Y-axis travel support full prismatic feature machining on rotational parts in a single clamping.
Compatible with SZGH's CNC1000T controller for C-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis simultaneous interpolation.

SZGH-46 Y-Axis Turn-Mill Compound | 45mm Bar Capacity

For medium-diameter complex parts — valve spools, hydraulic manifold stubs, automotive shafts with cross-features, and flange-type components in the 30–45mm bar range.The SZGH-46Y provides the same 4+4 power head architecture as the 36Y,
with a larger spindle bore, increased turret indexing torque,and support for heavier interrupted-cut milling on the side-face stations.
Ideal for automotive Tier-2 suppliers, hydraulic component manufacturers,and precision machining job shops handling medium-complexity part families.

Turn-Mill vs. Separate Lathe + Milling Machine — When to Choose Turn-Mill

A turn-mill compound machine delivers the most value when:
(1) parts require both turned diameters and milled features (cross-holes, flats, keyways, slots);
(2) secondary fixturing introduces dimensional variation or increases scrap rate;
(3) batch sizes are medium-to-high and cycle time per part is a competitive factor;
(4) floor space or operator headcount is constrained and a single machine replacing two reduces overhead.
For parts that are purely turned with no milled features, a standard CNC lathe remains the more cost-effective choice.
