What "High-Inertia" Means — and When It Matters

Servo motor inertia is a frequently misunderstood selection criterion. In most light-duty automation applications — small robotic joints, label applicators, conveyors with minimal mass — a low-inertia servo motor delivers faster acceleration and higher dynamic response. But when the driven load has high inertia of its own (heavy platens, large flywheels, long fabric rolls, dense fabric layers in sewing applications, or mechanical presses with substantial reciprocating mass), a low-inertia motor creates a load-to-motor inertia mismatch that causes the servo drive to oscillate, overshoot, or lose stable control during speed transitions.

The SZGH-13150AC addresses this by using a rotor with higher inherent inertia (19.4×10⁻⁴ kg·m²), which:

  • Reduces the load-to-motor inertia ratio — bringing the combined system closer to the 1:1 to 5:1 ratio that servo amplifiers can control stably without extensive gain tuning
