Product Description
The SZGH-540/650 4-axis configuration adds a SZGH servo-driven rotary table (A-axis) onto the standard SZGH-540 or SZGH-650 base machine. The additional rotary axis — controlled natively by the SZGH CNC system — enables the spindle to access multiple faces of a workpiece in one clamping. This eliminates manual repositioning between setups, removes cumulative re-clamping error, and is particularly suited to mold cavities, multi-face brackets, and any part requiring drilling or tapping on three or more faces. The SZGH-540 supports up to an 8-station tool magazine with the 4th axis installed; the SZGH-650 supports up to a 10-station magazine.

The defining benefit of 4th/5th axis integration is not speed — it is accuracy. Every time a workpiece is unclamped, repositioned, and re-clamped for a second setup, a new datum error is introduced. On a 3-axis machine, a part requiring face A drilling and face B tapping needs two setups — with typical re-clamping error of 0.02–0.05 mm. With the SZGH rotary 4th axis, the workpiece stays clamped and indexes to the next face under servo control, maintaining datum continuity throughout all operations. For parts where face-to-face concentricity or angular position is critical, this single-clamping discipline is not optional — it is the only way to hit specification.
The SZGH 4-axis rotary table operates in two modes controlled by the same SZGH CNC system. In index mode (the most common), the A-axis rotates to a preset angle — 0°, 90°, 180°, 270° for four-face work — locks, and the XYZ axes execute the programmed operations. No additional controller hardware is required. In continuous 4-axis mode, the A-axis and XYZ axes move simultaneously, enabling helical milling, cam profiling, and spiral-path engraving. Both modes are programmed using standard G-code (G0, G1, A-word), compatible with Mastercam, Fusion 360, and SolidCAM 4-axis post-processors.
Many 4th/5th axis upgrades on mid-range machines require a separate axis controller box, dedicated parameter wiring, and manual speed matching between the rotary drive and the main controller. The SZGH rotary table integrates directly into the SZGH CNC system as a native axis — the same servo bus, the same axis parameter block, the same MDI panel. This eliminates the external controller cost, simplifies installation (single cable set to the rotary table servo drive), and ensures that tool path commands from the CAM post-processor are interpreted correctly without axis synchronization calibration on-site.
Installing the 4th/5th axis on the SZGH-540 base preserves the machine's core competitive advantage: small footprint enabling multi-machine staffing. A 540+4-axis unit in a 4 m² floor zone can produce four-face-complete parts — drilled, tapped, and milled on all faces — while the operator services a second machine. For small aluminum housings, electronic enclosures, and connector bodies requiring operations on three or four faces, this configuration replaces three separate 3-axis setups and eliminates two re-clamping operations per part.
The SZGH-650 base brings its 5.5 kW spindle, 32 mm ball screws, and Ø30 mm steel drilling capability to the 4 -axis configuration. This matters for multi-face steel work: drilling Ø10–20 mm holes on four faces of a steel hydraulic manifold, tapping M12–M18 threads on three faces of a steel bracket, or contouring a mold cavity insert that requires five-axis access to undercut surfaces. On the 540 base, steel multi-face work is limited to Ø10 mm drilling and M8 tapping; the 650 base removes these constraints for medium-duty steel applications.
Both the 4-axis (index drilling/tapping on multiple faces of cavity inserts) options are directly optimized for mold and die applications. The combination of small machine footprint, ATC tool magazine, SZGH native axis control, and electric spindle option (24,000 rpm for fine copper electrode work) addresses the core workflow of a mold room: multiple small inserts, complex geometry, high accuracy requirement, and the need to minimize setup time per job in a mixed-part environment.

Choose SZGH-540 + 4-axis if: workpieces are small (≤500×400 mm), materials are primarily aluminum, brass, or plastic, and multi-machine single-operator operation is a priority.
Choose SZGH-650 + 4-axis if: workpieces require Ø30 mm steel drilling or M18 tapping on multiple faces, or the part size exceeds 500×400 mm.
Consider a standalone 4-axis VMC if: orkpieces routinely exceed 600×500 mm, or tool magazine capacity beyond 12 stations is required.
