Product Description
Your machine uses a servo turret or special turret. Servo and special-configuration turrets require servo-driven positioning that a standard 2-axis controller cannot coordinate. The TDc-3 natively supports servo turret and special turret ATC types, handling tool-change sequencing with the precision servo positioning those mechanisms demand.
You need C-axis (spindle servo positioning) for live tooling or milling on a turning center. C-axis turns the spindle into a controlled rotary positioning axis via the M800 command, enabling driven tool operations — milling, drilling off-center, and contour turning — directly on the lathe. This is the defining feature of a turning center controller vs. a plain lathe controller.
Your servo drives use EtherCAT or Powerlink bus communication. Modern bus-servo drives from major international manufacturers communicate over EtherCAT or Powerlink protocols rather than traditional step/direction pulse trains. The TDc-3 supports both bus types for feeding axes, providing deterministic timing and faster servo response that translates to better surface finish and more accurate thread profiles.
You need automatic tool setting or workpiece probing integrated into the CNC cycle. The TDc-3 includes built-in scanning function, auto tool setter (ATL), and probe support — so tool length measurement and workpiece reference setting happen inside the CNC program rather than as manual setup steps.
For basic 2-axis turning with standard ATC, see the SZGH-CNC1000TDc-2.

The TDc-3 supports four turret configurations — select the type that matches your machine's tool-change hardware.
Turret Type | Description |
Electric Turret | Standard electrically indexed rotary turret — the most common configuration on CNC lathes |
Binary Turret | Binary-coded tool position detection turret, typically used on older or custom machine designs |
Servo Turret | Servo-motor-driven precision turret — high-speed indexing with closed-loop position control |
Special Turret | Custom or non-standard turret configurations for specialized machine architectures |
Servo turret configuration delivers the highest repeat accuracy and fastest index times.
Two threading cycle modes cover the full range of lathe threading applications.
Mode | Description |
Following Mode | Spindle encoder-following threading — the controller reads the spindle encoder in real time and synchronizes the Z-axis feed to cut standard parallel, taper, and multi-start threads. This is the standard threading method for the majority of CNC lathe work. |
Interpolate Mode | Interpolated threading cycle — the controller generates the thread path by interpolating axis motion, enabling complex thread forms and profiles that require coordinated axis movement beyond simple encoder following. |
Following Mode handles virtually all standard threading requirements. Interpolate Mode is the right choice when thread geometry requires precise axis coordination — such as variable-pitch threads or threading cycles integrated with C-axis motion.
C-axis support (spindle servo positioning via M800) is what separates a turning center controller from a plain lathe controller. When a servo drive is connected to the spindle, the TDc-3 can command the spindle as a controlled rotary positioning axis — enabling spindle indexing for part loading, rigid tapping, and live tooling operations such as off-center drilling and milling on the part face or OD while still in the lathe chuck. Dual analog outputs (0–10 V, two independent channels) support two-spindle configurations — such as main spindle and sub-spindle lathes — within a single controller.
In addition to standard stepper and incremental/absolute encoder servo systems, the TDc-3 supports EtherCAT and Powerlink bus servo systems on all feeding axes. EtherCAT-connected drives communicate over a real-time industrial Ethernet protocol with deterministic cycle timing — typically 1 ms or less — which means the controller and drives stay perfectly synchronized even during high-speed threading passes and C-axis live tool paths where timing errors would create surface or pitch defects. This makes the TDc-3 compatible with modern bus-servo drives from major international manufacturers, allowing machine builders to specify high-end drives without changing the CNC controller platform.
Function | Description | Benefit |
Scanning Function | Part profile scanning and digitizing — traces an existing profile to generate a CNC program | Enables reverse engineering and copy turning without CAD/CAM |
Auto Tool Setter (ATS) | Automatic tool length measurement via on-machine setter | Eliminates manual tool offset entry; reduces setup time and human error |
Probe Support | Workpiece probing for reference point and dimension measurement | In-cycle workpiece verification without removing the part |
Macro Program | User macro programming (custom variable-based cycles) | Build flexible, parameterized cycles for families of parts |
Open PLC | Built-in PLC with online ladder diagram editing and signal diagnostics | Machine builder can customize I/O logic without proprietary tools |
USB + RS232 DNC | File transfer via USB flash drive or RS232 PC connection; supports mass-program DNC mode | Run large programs directly from storage; easy parameter backup and restore |
The TDc-3 is designed for machine builders and retrofitters working with more demanding machine configurations than standard 2-axis turning.
Application | Notes |
CNC Lathe Machine | Full-featured lathe controller with ATC, threading, and tool compensation. See SZGH CNC lathes for complete machine solutions. |
CNC Turning Center | C-axis and dual analog spindle support enable live tooling, driven tools, and sub-spindle configurations — the primary application for the TDc-3 upgrade. |
Grinding Machine | The TDc-3 specifically supports CNC grinding machine applications, including profile scanning and precision feeding axis control for cylindrical and surface grinding. |
Automatic / Special Equipment | Open PLC, macro programming, and flexible I/O make the TDc-3 suitable for specialized automation machinery where standard lathe controllers lack the I/O and axis flexibility required. |
